Currently Situation of Screwworm in Panama

Currently, the New World Screwworm (NWS) remains in the eradication stage with incidences of positive cases in all the provinces of Panama except for the Guna Yala Region. By October 12, Panama has a total of 19,701 positive cases, while at the regional level there is presence of NWS in Costa Rica with a total of 7,381 cases since the declaration of the outbreak, in Nicaragua there have been 4,034 cases and in Honduras 19 cases raids from Nicaragua to date.

En la actualidad el Gusano Barrenador del Ganado (GBG), se mantiene en etapa de erradicación con incidencias de casos positivos en todas las provincias de Panamá a excepción de la Comarca Guna Yala. Al 12 de octubre se han presentado un total de 19,701 casos positivos, mientras que a nivel regional hay presencia de GBG en Costa Rica con un total de 7,381 casos desde la declaración del brote, en Nicaragua se suman 4,034 casos y en Honduras 19 casos por incursiones desde Nicaragua hasta la fecha.
